Let’s talk about the Atelier Les Lyonnes.
Its founder, the utterly charming Anne-Claire Thiriot, decided to give spats a new life. The bet was a risky one, given that the accessory is rather dated.
And yet, the bet was worth it because she has, in a nutshell, given it a new life.
Her success is due to the fact that Anne-Claire’s creations are deliciously colorful, streamlined and perfectly adapted to the feminine silhouette. They dress up any stiletto in a flash and you can choose any color depending on your mood of the day (I obviously went for red spats, given my widely acknowledged love for that color). This simple accessory will add dynamism to any silhouette and give it a “je-ne-sais-quoi” that invariably pleases the eye.
Beyond the purely aesthetic dimension, the bet is a success because the leather spats lovingly designed and created by Anne-Claire make it infinitely more comfortable to walk in stilettos. Be it during the Winter period or between seasons, the spat keeps the foot’s neck nice and warm, a fact which cannot be neglected.
The spat allows for your foot to be more supported by the shoe and, to be perfectly honest, let me tell you that your foot will feel that and say thank you at the end of the day because it wouldn’t be totally crippled by your six-inch stilettos. Priceless? Absolutely.
Moreover, I love the idea of an historically masculine garment being adapted to serve women.
May the era of the gentlewoman begin.
