CHARADE

A perfectly Hepburnian dress and a cruise on the Seine. It didn’t take much for me to think of “Charade”.

“Charade”, one of my favorites films, directed in 1963 by Stanley Donen, brings together Audrey Hepburn and Cary Grant in a comedic thriller (yes a rare genre, but it exists) in which a widow leads in the investigation to find out what is behind the death of her late husband.

The plot is obviously not furiously laughable, but the film turns out to be a real comedy, where Audrey Hepburn’s antics respond perfectly to the delightfully offbeat composure of Cary Grant as he accompanies the lively widow in her investigation.

It’s captivating, funny, refreshing and also furiously stylish. Lovers of Paris will be delighted – the intrigue unfolding in the city of lights – and lovers of Givenchy as well. Audrey Hepburn is a monument of grace and elegance in this film. Every outfit is a marvel, and I’m always speechless in front of an imperial Audrey Hepburn ski outfit.

When the filming wrapped, Cary Grant was quoted as saying that he only ever wanted another Christmas film with Audrey Hepburn. And so do we. Every Christmas.
